Words Lost Their Meanings Long Ago

[There’s No Mathematics To Love And Loss – Anberlin]

Gonna write it up before I do anything else.

Today I went to see Shrek 4, but more on that later.

It seemed to be a day of running into people. At Syndal, who else would sit next to me but Carmaine (wow, haven’t mentioned her in a fair bit), and in the station right after that, Nat – who now lives in QUEENSLAND – just so happened to find us as well. The habit of always going to the 3rd carriage seemed to have stuck with everyone.

Then, at Melbourne Central, I nearly get blindsided by Idiot Lee, who turned out to have been there with Swin, Yeleng and Whitty (which was awkward because I’d turned Whitty down the night prior saying I had to go out with another group of friends. Well, I wasn’t lying at least.)

Ran into Joey L and a few younger MacRob girls too…it really was a day of running into people.

After realizing that 3D movie tickets were 20 bucks, we all decided to have cheap Hungry Jack’s for lunch. Sting, Cle- and Penny wanted to see Toy Story 3 but, since I am seeing it next week with Jac, I opted to see Shrek 4 with Viv and Fiona instead.

Onto my review of Shrek 4 (Not a full-blown review but a review nonetheless):

It wasn’t the best that they managed, and I still think that Shrek 2 was better. But there were some good gags in this one, and a few interesting references and metaphors. The storyline (without giving too much away) was generic and of course a happy ending, but it was not a bad idea for a final movie, and it does create a sort of reflection on Shrek’s life.

I have to say, I wished that they had something slightly more intricate and complicated with the major storyline (regarding the change in Shrek’s life), especially since they had the power to play with time, past/future, and magical wishes. Still, I suppose if you made it too complicated, the kid would not understand and follow.

I wish there was more gags with Pinocchio and the Gingerbread Man, and Puss-in-Boots’ fatness (that’s not a giveaway, you saw it in the trailers) was only made fun of very slightly when he first came on screen. But apart from that, it wasn’t a POOR effort. And at least they didn’t have some random Justin Timberlake-esque guest star doing the voice of a slightly-important character.

Oh and JANE LYNCH had a voice role but it was so small! WHAT!? She has the best intonation! Should have given her a bigger role.

Alright, apart from that, and I don’t think I gave away too much, that was it.

The train ride home passed without running into anyone.

And oh, it was cold.

Alex.

P.S. No point seeing it in 3D by the way. FYI.

Dive In And Swim Away

[This Is The Future – Owl City]

I JUST REALIZED! I never wrote about Jen’s birthday. I feel so ashamed.

Alright so I’ll write very quickly because I have to write about today as well.

So I went up to Crown on Jan 1st, which is Jen’s birthday, and I wore my nice blazer that everyone seems to love (yay). Got to the Village Cinemas, and found SonJ.

Chris, James and Ray were there too, and Chris gave me a shirt that has Jen printed on it (as in, various pictures of her face) so we all wore that. Jen arrived, hug hug hug, we went into The Pub (where we ate after Valedictory and which SonJ had once described as “the place with people, the chairs and tables”). We went to get some drinks (BECAUSE EVERYONE WAS OLD ENOUGH!). I felt short at the bar, but thank God there was a bar (aha) where I stood so I can look tall-ish.

Ordered food (the Asian chick who served us was nice, which worked out well later on). Then when we sat down I noticed this table placement thing that said “If you book for a birthday, you receive complementary wine and cake”. I was like, get out no way. So we agreed to get SonJ and Ray to go up to the Asian chick who was previously nice and asked that though we didn’t book can we get a cake for Jen? They were so nice that they went to get a cake from somewhere else ‘cos they didn’t have one in the back.

Go The Pub.

SonJ is awesome in this respect: when she tries to explain something she starts with the broadest meaning. So in this instance she was trying to get a word like “testimonial” and she started with “you know when people write something about something?”

After dinner we went to the bowling place, but it was chocked full (duh it was NYD) so we went to Fusion bar. Paid, got stamped, and then there was no one inside (and a small bottle of Mount Franklin costs 5 bucks WHAT?!) so after a while we danced in the middle of the empty floor like douches, and then I had to leave.

Okay it doesn’t sound EXCITING when I say it here but the night was really awesome. Just talking nonsense with friends. Awesome. Better than NYE I suppose.

Alright, now I gotta go write about today!
