MLIA, I’m Hanging Onto You!

So today was another “study session” with Jen at State library. I’ve given up on saying it’s a real study session. Who’re we kidding?

Met up at 9:30 UCMC (by the way, that term never has and never will catch on, will it) and went upstairs to Gloria Jeans, where we both got one of those Iced Tim Tam drink things. Discussed losing weight and fatness for a while, and then we went to State at around 10, past 10 ish.

Went in (it was very cool. Way to pay attention to global warming, guys) and started trying to study for Legal Studies. Two minutes in, we fell into a coma. So we played some games on our iPods (speaking of which mine still isn’t fixed, I still can’t link it to my computer. Can anyone help?) and repeatedly said “Okay we HAVE to study we HAVE to study” and then we didn’t.

At around 12 Jen felt hungry so we went out to a Vietnamese place on Swanston Street. I had Pho (Not Pris. She comes later) and Jen had some broken rice thing. It was hot so I decided to treat myself to a VB. When I ordered it, the guy looked at me and said, “are you old enough to drink?”

“Yes.”

“Okay.” And then went away with our order. That was some epic ID checking right there. If only nightclubs did the same, right?

“Are you old enough to grind in an over-age venue?”

“Yes.”

“Okay.”

“Are you old enough to drive?”

“Yes.”

“Okay.”

I decided to be cool and ate some of the chilli that came with the Pho, and bit down on the seeds. It was…interesting.

Went back to State afterwards, and it was really really really hot. Went to the Games Room and played Wii for a while, where Jen owned me in Wii Tennis and Bowling (shh). Then Pris called me, and her and Carmaine came along, with Dom following (well Dom…would have been there regardless…did you know he dreamt about State Library? Duuuuude). Carmaine, Jen and I played Little Big Planet (Jen and I took one control, where Jen was direction and I was jumping etc) and Pris and Dom played Wii. Then they got bored and joined us at Little Big Planet.

I helped figure out how to hold onto things, and spent quite a lot of the time hanging onto Carmaine’s character while she dragged me around. Then we came across a trap where it’s a ghost thing that floats up and down, and if the ghost thing covers your character you die. She got annoyed at me hanging onto her (well hell it was fun.) and aimed it so that the ghost covered our character but not hers. We died, she didn’t. She laughed evilly.

And then I’ll skip how good Dom is at the game.

And then they left to study, and Jen and I actually studied. We went through a practice exam orally (dude, don’t) except I think it was an easy exam because we did it really easily. Studied a bit more, and then played on iPod again.

Jen needed to charge her iPod, so I went to get my recharge cord out of the locker. Except 4 hours was up by then, so I had to pay an extra dollar for another four hours, but only needed 1 hour. Then, this happened (and I submitted it to MLIA, so hopefully you’ll see it):

Today, I was annoyed at having to pay a dollar for another four hours on a locker when I only need it for an hour more. I put in my two dollar coin, and heard my change fall into the slot. Reaching in, I came back with 2 one-dollar coins; the previous user had forgotten to take their change, thus giving me a free hour on my locker. I felt like State Library was apologizing for making me pay. MLIA.

It was awesome.

Left at around 4 and went to JB. They didn’t have the headphones I wanted. Said bye to Jen and went to Big W. They didn’t have the headphones I wanted. Went back to Melbourne Central and bought a Monster energy drink with the 2 dollars I then had because of above, drank it on the train home (shouldn’t have done it) and then at Holmesglen these bunch of fobby TAFE students came in loudly talking in Chinese about how they fail in English (agreed).

Tomorrow, I have my Legal exam. And then after that only Chinese which I frankly don’t even worry about anymore. Maybe I’ll write 1 or 2 more practice essays and I’m done. I’m so glad the exam period was as scary as I feared – but it was still pretty shitty.

Studying…

I haven’t updated in ages, so maybe I should share what I’ve been doing.
I’ve actually been studying! What a change. I have 5 weekdays and 5 subjects, doesn’t take a genius to figure out how I decided to do this.
It’s semi working, I did get methods done (mostly…sort of) and I do plan to do English and catch up on the legal studies I didn’t do yesterday.
Yes, I am so freaking fun and exciting right now. Wait ’til exams get closer.
Yep. Cool.
Maybe something fun will happen later this week. Ten bucks say no.
On the other hand, channel GO! is up to episodes of Moonlight I haven’t seen yet. That’s sort of exciting.
Okay I’ll just…go do homework now. Yep.

Tuesday Arvos

My Tuesdays are blocked as the following

Period 1, Methods.

Period 2, Free.

Period 3+4, English Language.

Period 5+6, Dozing through Legal Studies.

This was the second week in a row that I didn’t manage to keep my eyes open for all of Legal Studies, and not the first lesson this week in which Mr Sh-‘s words melted away as my eyelids gained several kilos. He was talking about, I think, the Gov Gen’s role in Executive Counsel when suddenly Jen stabbed me awake. Now, don’t get me wrong, while Legal is currently not the stuff of legends, it’s not sleep inducing either – not at the rate Mr Sh- teaches. But because of the Oscars last night and Mr Sh-‘s unrelentingly Philadelphia-esque (the cheese spread) tone, I was not 10 minutes into class when I started losing energy.

I’ve decided that every Tuesday recess or in my free before I’d make myself a stiff cup of coffee. I don’t think I’d keep it up because I don’t like how coffee stains my teeth. But I have to keep awake in my Legal double somehow.

Keep Cool (and, well, obviously, awake)

Take Off

So today was also a pretty fresh day, in terms of getting into the swing of Year 12.

I had a double free in the morning, and decided to tackle that reading for Legal. It was about the freaking Parliamentary system and its historical links with the Westminster system from Britain and what the houses represent and all that junk. I sucked it up and read it all, trying to remember the little details (76 seats in the upper house, which is the Senate, and 120 in the lower, House of Rep. In the Senate there is 12 seats from each state, 2 from each territory. NT was looking into becoming a state but the voters rejected the idea. It took 87 years for Australia to finally start veering away from the British government system.  See I do fucking remember it). I thought to myself, even though that was rather boring, when it gets to criminal law it’ll pick up. I can actually do this. I can actually read this!

Then I had double methods with the new Romanian teacher. Sat in the back with Carmaine. In a way we were both glad we had extra outside tutors because her accent was thick and she did the work slowly. But then again Absolute Functions (Modulus) isn’t exactly heart-racing Maths – assuming there is such a thing.

I received a shitthick booklet for Eng Lang. With all the reading in it for the year.

When Chinese starts, I’m going to assume that if I want to do really well I’m gonna have a slightly hard time staying on top of things. But the one thing I take pride in is my ability to work in solid blocks of hours and finish the work in a rather high standard.

April whacked me in the face today.

And that’s about it.

Keep Cool (and the environment healthy because my Eng Lang class alone probably killed off a good half of an ex-rainforest somewhere),

First Day Of The Last

Today I had my first official school day of Year 12. Actually, I suppose it wasn’t really a full day considering it was a Wednesday and most of it were interrupted by school photos, but nonetheless a working day.

We were given the outline for English and Legal, my two classes for today, and while both of them are a bit daunting, I think if I pull my head in I can do it. English will require me to put in a bit more effort with notes and prep than I usually do, and it was a bit sad actually not having April in my class to relieve the stress like I usually have her. I have some pretty big personalities in my English class this year so if I don’t watch what I say I might get onto the wrong side of things. I don’t know, maybe I want that. So far, I’ve been dubbed as the knife-killer due to a misunderstanding in an activity we did. And Legal Studies I see to be a rather hard but fun subject, because Julia and Jen are really good to sit with, and Mr Sh- is an interesting speaker.

Tomorrow I have my first Methods and English Language class. I shudder to think what will happen in Methods. I hope that I’m keeping up with the work. And it will be interesting to see how Miss Madd- teaches, as compared to Mr And-. Oh, speaking of which, Ino- Sensei has officially changed her name so it is hyphenated with Mr And-‘s as well. And here I was thinking that it just meant they were being coodinators together.

I got the bottom locker, but I suppose it’s not too bad, despite the crowding. Most of my classes, bar Methods, are all on the same level and building as my locker, with my form room and my Legal Studies class right next door to it. So I can afford to wait for an opening.

I sat under the aircon in Legal and I’ve got a bit of a headache. I’m sure it’s nothing a spot of water, a good sleep and my immune system can’t kick, though. Bee, Carmaine and Fel studied at the Glen library after school while I waited for my mom to pick me up. It annoys me that, because I don’t study much, I sometimes get shunned from them when they do need to study. This probably won’t be too big a problem this year, considering I want to pick up my slack (baby steps, as Mr Sh- advised) but nonetheless…

I don’t know if I will blog as frequently as I do from now on. It’s become a habit to log on every night and tap in a few (hundred) words. But at the same time I want to keep up in Methods, and stay on top of the reading for Legal. And then, Chinese will start. I’m pretty glad I did an extra year of Chinese beforehand, because I’ve got a fair idea of what Year 12 is like. I’m just worried about my Detailed Studies.

Socially, Year 12 is shaping up pretty well. I stepped into the Common Room for a bit today but it was crowded by quite a few people – if I’m honest, it was crowded by the group of people I expected it to be dominated by – so we didn’t do much. I haven’t yet taken advantage of microwaves and whatnots. The canteen has adopted a new menu this year. I mean, yeah, it’s healthier, but frankly it’s a lot more expensive for food that we can all bring from home anyway, and bloody hell they’re charging 20c for a packet of ketchup, whereas before it was liberal dispensing of soy sauce, ketchup, mustard…and plus they’ve taken off most of the greasy foods which we rely on in winter. Interested to see how long this new health kick can last for.

It was pretty good to hang out a bit with the people in my form, I didn’t do much of that at camp. Form is going to be awesome this year, because we’ve got our old Geography/History room, and there were many a good memory made there in the past. I feel that everyone’s being pretty happy and nice to everyone else (at least as far as I’m aware) because it’s our final year. That is not to say I haven’t also noticed how much distaste I have for some people who laughed and made fun of other people behind their backs (case in point the envelopes of postcards we made for English, with our personalities on them. A few girls have been looking at them with their friends and laughing and guessing some postcards to be representing “retard” or “pedophile”).

Oh well, one more year and I can be rid of those idiots forever. Spend more time with real friends.

Keep Cool (and motivated)
